About Batemans

Location: Burwash, East Sussex Built: 1634 This Jacobean house, made of sandstone, was originally built for John Brittan, an iron master, before it becoming the home for Rudyard Kipling, who is probably best known for his stories such as 'Jungle Book' and 'Kim'. The house has been looked after by the National Trust and it has been kept as when Kipling and his wife lived there.
